Viagra 50mg tablet contains an active component such as Sildenafil. This medication is used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in men. It contains the active ingredient sildenafil citrate, which belongs to a class of drugs called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. It increases blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation, which helps men achieve and maintain an erection. Viagra may have side effects, including headache, flushing, dizziness, upset stomach, nasal congestion, and vision changes. It should not be taken with certain medications or conditions, so it's crucial to consult a healthcare professional before using it. Individuals with a history of cardiovascular diseases, such as heart problems (angina, heart failure, irregular heartbeats) or recent heart attack, should exercise caution when using Viagra. The sexual activity itself can strain the heart and can further increase the strain by increasing blood flow. Consult with a healthcare professional to assess the risks and benefits in such cases. This medication can cause a mild decrease in blood pressure. Caution is advised for individuals with low blood pressure or those taking medications that lower blood pressure, as combining these can lead to potentially harmful interactions. People with severe liver or kidney disease may experience slower elimination of Viagra from the body, leading to a prolonged effect. Dosage adjustments may be necessary in such cases.

A Viagra-like drug may be easier on the stomach than a Viagra-like drug, says researchers at the University of Oxford, who studied how a drug such as sildenafil affects the central nervous system. It is thought to help men with erectile dysfunction by increasing blood flow to the penis and keeping it hard enough for sex. (Image: Getty)
Researchers, led by Professor David Healy, from the University of Bristol, analysed data from the Oxford-based study of men with erectile dysfunction and found that sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra, had no effect on blood flow to the penis.
Viagra has a much longer half-life than other erectile dysfunction drugs, and is known for its rapid onset of action. Sildenafil is taken by mouth, and can be taken with or without food. The drug is available by prescription only, with a small price difference.
Men with erectile dysfunction often experience fatigue, low sex drive, erectile dysfunction and problems with ejaculation. Some men experience erectile dysfunction in part due to problems with ejaculation, and other more often due to psychological problems such as anxiety, stress or depression.
Sildenafil is also used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension.
Professor Healy said: "I'm sure many men would benefit from Viagra if it were available to them. But it is not available in the UK because it's expensive and we need more funding. And the price of Viagra has to be negotiated very carefully, and we need to do it under the close supervision of the drug manufacturers."
The drug's mechanism of action is not well understood, but it may be a way for a man to help his body to produce more nitric oxide, a molecule that helps dilate blood vessels. This dilates the blood vessels to improve blood flow to the penis, and may help to improve erectile function.
Researchers said the drug could also be a treatment for Parkinson's disease and other neurological disorders, which are linked to the brain's production of nitric oxide. The drug could also be used to treat certain types of cancer.
However, they said that while there were no major differences in the effects of sildenafil between the men who took the drug and those who did not, the drug may be more suitable for men who have erectile dysfunction.
Professor Healy, from University of Bristol, said: "There are no long-term effects of Viagra in patients with erectile dysfunction, but we do know that it could be an effective treatment for pulmonary arterial hypertension. There are no serious side effects with the use of Viagra in patients with erectile dysfunction.
The study found that men who took sildenafil had an increased blood flow to the penis, and the drug increased the number of penile blood vessels in their penis.
However, the drug may be more suitable for men who have erectile dysfunction, and who are also at risk of high blood pressure, such as those with heart disease or a history of stroke.
Dr Healy said: "In patients with erectile dysfunction, the drug could improve erectile function in some patients. It could be a treatment for Parkinson's disease and other neurological disorders, and in some cases, the drug may be useful for cancer."
Professor Healy added: "The use of sildenafil in men with erectile dysfunction could be an effective treatment for Parkinson's disease. The use of sildenafil in patients with erectile dysfunction could also be useful in treating pulmonary arterial hypertension. We hope the drug's potential in helping to improve erectile function in men with this condition."
In order to improve the chances of getting an erection, some people need to use sildenafil more than once a day. Some people take the drug only once a day, but it may be more effective for people who take more than one dose each day.
A study of over 3000 men found that people who took sildenafil had more than twice as many erections as those who did not take the drug. Viagra-like drugs, such as Sildenafil, can help to increase blood flow to the penis, but they should not be taken more than once every day.
The drug is already available in generic form, but it is not expected to have any significant differences.
